Welcome back to “Going GreenHouse Gives Back,” where we continue to explore the inspiring stories of remarkable individuals in our community who will receive a free house cleaning service from Going GreenHouse in return for a short interview. Today, we’re honored to have Brea with us, sharing her journey of love, resilience, and family.
I’m your host, April Prothero, and today we’re visiting a familiar face in the Going GreenHouse family. You may recognize Brea as our former “Client Concierge” or as we affectionately refer to her, “sunshine with legs”. Brea stepped away from Going GreenHouse the summer of 2022 to care for her growing family.
Brea’s love story began when she met David in December 2019, a connection forged through a shared love for live music. Their bond grew stronger as they navigated the challenges of the pandemic lockdown, eventually tying the knot in February 2022. They welcomed their son Leo in January 2021 and daughter Juniper in June 2022, completing their family alongside Brea’s teenage son Elias. Their bond was even further strengthened, when early in 2023, Brea was given the news that she had colon and liver cancer.
In the face of adversity, Brea and David’s strength and commitment to each other shine through. Brea finds unwavering support from David and Elias, while the family, including little Leo and little Juniper, continues to find joy and positivity in their growing bond.
As we dive deeper into their lives, we explore the activities they enjoy together as a family, their cherished traditions, and the positive impact our cleaning service has had on their daily lives. Stay with us as we unravel more heartwarming moments from Brea and David’s journey in this edition of “Going GreenHouse Gives Back.”
April: Thank you for being here with us today. Let’s start from the beginning. How did you and David meet, and what initially drew you to each other?
Brea: We actually met at the Yucca Tap room in December 2019. We both share a love for local bands, and that connection brought us together right before the pandemic hit. Throughout the lockdown, we were fortunate to have each other for company. We got a place in Gilbert, and our little one, Leo, came along in January 2021. Shortly after, we tied the knot in February 2022. Our family became complete with the arrival of little Juniper in June 2022, joining my teenage son Elias.
April: It’s a beautiful story of love and resilience. Given the challenges you’ve faced, what do you admire most about each other, and how has it contributed to your relationship?
Brea: Well, David has been my rock through thick and thin. His unwavering support during my battle with cancer has been incredible. He keeps a positive outlook, and despite the hardships, we find joy in our growing family. Elias, too, has been busy and helpful, working his way up at McDonald’s and now managing there. It’s a team effort that keeps us going.
April: That’s truly inspiring. I know how much you all love to spend time as a family. What hobbies or activities do you all enjoy doing together?
Brea: As a family, we love spending time outdoors, whether it’s in our backyard or taking walks around our neighborhood in Gilbert. We also enjoy visiting the IDEA Museum in Mesa, and there’s a nearby playground that the kids love. I HIGHLY recommend it if you haven’t been there. April: I know how much you love learning as well as the outdoors and nature so that’s not a surprise to me! Are there any rituals or traditions that you and David hold dear as a couple?
Brea: One tradition we’ve embraced is getting a REAL Christmas tree. It adds a special touch, and we try to incorporate elements from our childhoods, like a seafood feast on Christmas Eve and lasagna on Christmas Day.
April: Those traditions sound delicious, I think I’ll have to come over next year! How has our cleaning service made a positive impact on your daily life?
Brea: The cleaning service has been a tremendous help, especially during my battle with cancer when I’ve been too tired to handle the cleaning myself. It takes away the stress, allowing me to focus on self-care and spending quality time with my family.
April: It’s heartwarming to know about how our services have added value to your life. Can you share some of the things your family asked for from Santa this year?
Brea: Absolutely! Leo was hoping for a tool set because he enjoys fixing things. Juniper’s wish was a dancing llama, perfectly matching her love for singing and dancing. And as for me, I was looking forward to a much-needed mani-pedi and a relaxing massage—a day dedicated to self-care!
April: It sounds like a thoughtful list. Before we wrap up, is there anything you’d like to share with our readers?
Brea: I miss my old clients, co-workers, and the routine of adult life. I miss getting dressed up and putting on makeup. Despite the challenges, I try to maintain a positive outlook and cherish the simple joys each day brings.
April: Thank you, Brea, for sharing your story and insights with us. We wish you and your family all the best as you navigate through these times.
